Feeback
Despite years of efforts by some in the industry to influence otherwise, the resounding response from our poll respondents shows that HP NonStop remains the platform of choice for those driving transactions in this space. There is no doubt that work done over recent years by HP to improve performance, TCO and openness of the NonStop platform has been a major contributor to the response; however all of those things serve only to support the endorsement that HP NonStop is the critical operational foundation for such systems. An interesting observation is that where HP NonStop was not considered the mission critical platform of choice, the platform that won out was Sun Solaris. In our opinion this is more likely a reflection of the Oracle acquisition of Sun, and suggests organisational commitments to strategic enterprise database environments, rather than an indication that the Sun platform in itself has equivalent mission critical credentials to NonStop.
Reflecting the efforts that HP has gone to in recent years to make the NonStop environment less proprietary, respondents indicated that where HP Non Stop is their platform of choice it important to them that their core payments application is able to exploit the latest developments made by HP in the NonStop platform. As modern applications are deployed on NonStop, replacing the outmoded legacy systems that dominate the space today, state of the art SOA based solutions will provide much faster go to market, significantly greater flexibility and a major reduction in total cost of ownership. The investments HP has made in SQL on NonStop enable far greater clarity to be given to the process of managing and authorising transactions using modern solutions, as well as the capacity to drive a significantly better experience for end clients. In responding to the demands of the user base for a more open NonStop environment, coupled with complementary modern technologies, such as TANGO financial institutions can embark on the next wave of evolution in retail payments with confidence and surety.
